Marrakech

Marrakech, the city of dreams. An essential destination for business travelers and tourists wishing to immerse themselves in Arab-Muslim culture. Marrakech is a megalopolis with a long history of conquest and military domination. This city was formerly under the yoke of the Ottomans then later, under those of the Almohades and the Saadians before regaining its independence in the 17th century when the French took Andalusia in 1578! When I went to Marrakech for the first time in November 2016, I didn't know much about this city that attracted me so much: how to get there? what step to do? which sites to see?... Here is my point of view on this unique destination:

The Medina of Marrakech

The Medina of Marrakech

The Medina of Marrakech is the historic heart of the city. It is a picturesque and lively district which is located northwest of the city center, surrounded by narrow and winding streets. The typical houses are built of cut stone, with pyramid-shaped towers to attract customers to the shopping streets. The windows are high and decorated with colored stained glass, but they remain discreet, because they serve to illuminate rather than to travel in time or to express another artistic philosophy:

Bahia Palace

Bahia Palace

Palace de la Bahia, a beautiful palace built in the 17th century, is one of the most famous monuments in Marrakech. It has a beautiful garden with palm trees and fountains that are surrounded by a wall with four towers. This building also has two terraces where you can enjoy your lunch or dinner while watching people passing by on their way to visit the square or eat ice cream at Ben Azouz's shop.

Located near Jemaa el-Fna Square, this palace offers stunning views over Marrakech's cityscape as well as its streets full of life!

Koutoubia Mosque

Koutoubia Mosque

The Mosquée Koutoubia is a mosque in Marrakech, Morocco. It is the third largest mosque in Africa and the largest one in all of Africa.

Located on Place Koutoubia just north of Place Jemaa El Fnaa, it houses over 200 000 people on Fridays during Ramadan when services are held there from dawn until sunset. A second prayer hall can hold up to 300 people at any given time (up to 350 according to some estimates).

The building dates back to the 11th century when it was originally built by Ali ben Youssef ben Yahya al Andalusi as part of his palace complex called "Al-Koutoubia" which also included an attached baths complex and gardens.

Place Jemaa el-Fna or square Jemaa el-Fna Friday evening 9:30 am for the market and the artists

Jemaa el-Fna Square

Jemaa el-Fna Square

The Place Jemaa el-Fna is one of the most important places in Marrakech and it's the heart of nightlife. The square is located in front of the Mosque Koutoubia, with its beautiful illuminated minaret, which can be seen from far away. You can also see other monuments like palaces or mosques such as Palais des Papes (Palace of Popes) or Musee de Marrakech Museum or Jardin Majorelle Garden . . .

Marrakech is a city that seizes your imagination. It is a city of contrasts, where history meets the future and traditions are still alive.
